Stone that remembers the earth that formed it.

About us

Three generations carving stone.

It started in a small mine in Zacatecas, where my grandfather learned to read stone the way others read books. Today we still pull from the same veins, with the same hands.

Every block that leaves our mines passes through stonemasons who have spent decades in the trade. This isn't industrial production — it's patient, slow work, done with respect for the material.

Our story

From the mines of Zacatecasto your home.

Quarry stone mine

A heritage carved by hand.

In 1987, my grandfather Joaquín first descended into a small pink quarry near Jerez, Zacatecas. He had no machinery — only a chisel, a mallet, and his uncle's promise that there was enough stone inside to make a good living, if one knew how to read it.

He learned by watching. How light falls on a vein. How good stone sounds when struck. How to ask the material where it wants to break, instead of forcing it. Those years of patience became craft, and craft, slowly, became home.

"Stone isn't conquered. It's listened to. And when you listen well, it tells you exactly how it wants to be cut."

My father Rafael opened the second mine in the nineties — this time white marble in Tepeaca. Then came the green quarries of Querétaro, the onyx of Puebla, the black volcanic stone of Michoacán. Every new vein meant traveling, meeting the local stonemason families, earning their trust, learning from them.

Today we are the third generation. We work with fourteen stonemason families across six Mexican states. No material we sell touches a single machine before it passes through a stonemason's hands — everything is inspected, hand-selected, chiseled where needed. It's not the fastest way to do this. It's the only way we know.

Every box that leaves our warehouse carries, somewhere in a corner, the engraved mark of the stonemason who worked it. It's our way of saying: this isn't a product. It's the work of someone with a name and a last name, who has dedicated their life to understanding a stone.

01

Traceable origin

Every piece comes with the exact mine it was extracted from and the name of the stonemason who carved it. That simple.

02

Fair trade

We pay stonemason families directly. No middlemen, no squeezed prices. Their work is worth what it's worth.

03

Handcrafted

Primary cuts are always made by hand. Machines are for finishing only — never to replace the eye of a stonemason.

Ordering & shipping

How long does shipping take?

Domestic ground shipping from our Texas warehouse takes 2–7 business days depending on your destination. Specific transit times are calculated at checkout based on your ZIP code.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Currently we ship within the continental US, Alaska, and Hawaii. International orders are handled case-by-case for trade accounts only — contact us through the trade program.

Can I track my order?

Yes. Once your order ships, you'll receive a tracking number by email. You can also use our Order tracking page to check status with your order number and email.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Inspect every box at delivery and note any visible damage on the carrier's delivery slip. Photograph the damage and email us at hello@marlastone.co within 48 hours. We replace damaged tiles at no charge.

What's your return policy?

Unopened boxes can be returned within 30 days for a refund minus 15% restocking fee and return shipping. Custom cuts and partial boxes are non-returnable. Trade accounts have extended terms.

What payment methods do you accept?

All major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link by Stripe. Trade accounts qualify for Net 30 terms after their third order.

Material & measurements

How much extra should I order for waste?

We recommend 10% extra for cuts and breakage on standard installations. For diagonal patterns or complex layouts, plan for 15–20%. Our online calculator already includes 10%.

What's the difference between marble and quarry stone?

Marble is a metamorphic rock formed by heat and pressure on limestone — softer, more luminous, suited for interiors. Quarry stone is volcanic or sedimentary stone cut directly from the earth — harder, more weather-resistant, suited for both interior and exterior.

Can you do custom cuts or special sizes?

Yes. For projects requiring non-standard sizes, custom edges, or matched veining, request a custom quote. Lead times for custom work are typically 4–8 weeks.

Are there shade variations between boxes?

Natural stone always has variation — that's part of its character. We grade and sort each lot, but expect subtle differences between boxes. For color-critical projects, order all material from a single lot in one order.

Samples & selection

Can I order physical samples?

Yes. Order up to 5 sample tiles (4×4 in or 6×6 in depending on material) for $25 flat rate including shipping. Request samples here. Trade accounts receive complimentary sample kits.

How long do samples take to arrive?

Samples ship within 2 business days and arrive in 3–5 business days via USPS or FedEx Ground.

Can I visit a showroom?

Our Texas warehouse has a small showroom open by appointment for trade clients and serious buyers. Email hello@marlastone.co to schedule.

Trade & large projects

Do you offer trade pricing?

Yes. Architects, designers, contractors, builders, and retailers qualify for our Trade Program — 15% off retail standard, with tiered discounts up to 25% for volume orders. Apply for trade pricing.

What about very large orders?

For projects over 1,000 ft² or specialty stone (large slabs, custom matching, full container loads from Mexico), we work direct with you on pricing and logistics. Request a custom quote.

Can you reserve material for an upcoming project?

Trade accounts can reserve specific lots for up to 60 days without payment. Retail customers can place a 30% deposit to hold material for up to 30 days.

Care & installation

How do I clean and maintain natural stone?

Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner — never vinegar, lemon, or generic bathroom cleaners (they etch the surface). Reseal marble and travertine annually; quarry stone every 2–3 years. Wipe spills immediately, especially wine, citrus, and oil.

Do you provide installation services?

We don't install ourselves, but we maintain a network of vetted installers in major US metros. Contact us with your project location and we'll connect you.

Do I need to seal the stone?

Yes. All natural stone should be sealed before grouting and again every 1–3 years depending on the material and use. Our specialists can recommend the right sealer for your stone.
